Java finch  (Lonchura oryzivora)

  1. A pair of gorgeous wild type Javas showing off their crisp black helmets and their chunky, colorful beaks, it’s not hard to see why these handsome little birds make great pets when hand reared. [x]
  2. Fawn ( or isabella) Javas lack eumomelanin, giving them a soft sepia toned look. They also appear to have dark red eyes. [x]
  3. Similar to fawn, the silver’s (or opal) lack of phaeomelanin changes all of the markings to shades of pale grey.[x]
  4. White finches seem to be an especially popular variety, this little one’s white tinged pink beak and legs really stand out against the pure white feathers.[x]
  5. This pied bird is mottled with white, gently breaking up it’s pattern.[x]
  6. Saddleback is not a morph in it’s own right, but a term for a high white piebald with color restricted to the back. These two youngsters have only a splash of light grey on their otherwise white bodies. [x]
  7. The cream is a combination of the fawn and pastel (see chart below), toning down the brown markings even further to a pale tan helmet and belly with red eyes.[x]
  8. An agate compared to a normal, this is a subtle coloration difference, the helmet a dark brown and the belly a lighter color. This could potentially be a hybrid. [x]
  9. Black headed Javas are odd little mishaps, and it’s not sure if it’s an inheritable trait. A pure black head and darker grey body distinguished it from normals, though as the bird matures it gains white cheeks. How much, I’m not quite sure. [x]

Unfortunately I really couldn’t find a lot of nice, clear images of some of the morphs, so have this handy French (?)  chart here with some of the ones I’ve left out and the various combos! And if anyone know the actual source, please let me know! Reverse image searching brought up nothing that seems to be the source.
