Western Diamondback Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox)

  1. Your standard (but beautiful) red-brown example with it’s striking “coon tail”. There seems to be a good amount of variation in the base color, but I’ve decided to post the not-so-subtle differences this  time. [x]
  2. A clean striped morph, it’s stripe a dark brown, and it’s sides are patternless. [x]
  3. Another striped, but it’s lighter, the pattern is broken up, fades, and is outlined in brown dots. It’s tail stripes are “muddy”, not as defined as usual. [x]
  4. A patternless young fellow from Arizona with clean sides, a faint hint of a dorsal stripe fading into a warm khaki tail, and really odd vertical pinstriped tail rather then horizontally ringed. I really love his tail! [x]
  5. A stunning white sided morph, with translucent looking pink blushed head and sides, two small “beauty marks”, and a speckled brown dorsal stripe. I really wish more photos of this unique baby existed, he/she is a rare find! [x]
  6. An albino, with the yellow tint many albino reptiles seem to have. [x]
  7. Melanistic Western rattlers come in many shades and degrees of black. This fellow’s pattern is still faintly visible. [x]
  8. A gorgeous captive bred beauty, the offspring of a Caramel Albino + Melanistic. A yellow background with lovely muted red-brown pattern. [x]
  9. The pattern of scaleless snakes tend to pop, and this mostly scaleless Western is no exception. I think he still has dorsal scales? He’s either very young, or the scaleless mutation prevents the rattle from growing. [x]
  10. An albino scaleless, it’s skin translucent and only faintly patterned. You can really see the wrinkles scaleless have. He looks a looks a bit like crinkled tissue paper. [x]

And as a bonus (and so I don’t clutter up this photoset), a clutch of multi-hued babies.
